House of Resistance
During the 2019 Anti-Extradition Law movement, there were dead bodies being discovered dressed like protestors all in black floating at the shores of Hong Kong. The question this video work was trying to ask is: When a protestor die, how would their story be continued? The storyline of the video was about a male protestor being washed ashore all dressed in black encountering another female protestor all dressed in white. The protestors of Hong Kong created many public gathering events to mourn other dead protestors, through these gathering of remembrance they empowered themselves. The image of the torch from the video symbolised power, hope, and destruction. The male protestor picked the torch up one by one after the girl, then returning back to the dark ocean. It is a metaphor of not willing to forget those who passed away, to let them live forever in our sub-conscious, this way we can have the power to continue the journey ourselves, we are not alone.
