The Shield 反極權之盾

Back in September 2019 during the Anti-Extradition Bill movement in Hong Kong, there was a strong sentiment of wanting to perish together with the Chinese Communist Party amongst the Hong Kong protestors. The artist was inspired by the movie 300 which depicts the courage and bravery when facing a much bigger enemy. The artist participated in the protest by dressing up like a Spartan fighter carrying the Shield of Anti-totalitarianism. When young protester saw the artist, they came up to him to praised how ‘handsome’ he looks, the artist replied: “For Sparta! Tonight, we’ll dine in Hell!” The superhero image is a mirror for many young protestors of Hong Kong fighting for freedom and democracy.

在香港2019年9月「反送中運動」中，抗爭中瀰漫著一種與中共同歸於盡的態度。藝術家受電影《300壯士:斯巴達的逆襲》故事的啟發:面對巨大敵人要勇敢正視死亡，創作出「斯巴達人」這抗爭者角色，「斯巴達人」拿著「反極權之盾」與香港抗爭者一起參與遊行，年青抗爭者看到這件作品時，感覺彷彿是個照鏡，如同看到自己化身成為英雄人物捍衛我城。藝術家跟他們大喊 : 「為了斯巴達! 今晚我們在地獄裏晚餐!」
